Need assistance with Email configuration. Mail Fetching failure

Hi All,

I have osticket 1.7.5 set up on an centos linus box. I am trying to configure the mail settings from Admin Panel > Email, then I chose the support email. 

When I attempt to change host to my current email server, on port 110, using POP, I get an error message. Connection failed to <mail server>, connection timed out. 

I have modified my iptables to allow ports 110, 22, and some others. 

Is there anybody who can at least point me in the right direction? I can supply more details if needed.
