Active Directory Authentication & HTTP Pass Through Auth

Hi,

I installed osTicket v1.8.1.
  1. is it to possible to make client authenticate with AD? and after they authenticate to see all tickets they opened? I installed the auth-ldap plugin but as i understand it is working only for staff users not for client users. for me this feature is a must in order to use osTicket system in our company.
  2. I installed and enabled the http pass through auth plugin but i don't what it should do and how see if it is working.
Thanks,

  • 1. Not using the current ldap-auth plugin no.  My understanding is that this plugin or one like it for client side will be implemented once the client (user) accounts are revamped in 1.9.

    2. Honestly, I have no idea.  I have not played with it yet. I'm not even sure if it works.
  • you know when should we expect 1.9?

it sounds strange that a software that so many companies use don't have basic feature like AD-Authentication or any authentication for the clients... it is not secure and also not convenient, if a client want to see all his tickets, status, history what should he do?
  • Correction, I meant 1.8.2, and it is my understanding is that 1.8.2 is slated for a Q2 release this year.

Not secure?  The ticket number is emailed to them, so it is as secure as their email account is.

If a client (user) wants to see their tickets, ticket status, or history then they can log into the ticket system using their email (aka username) and a valid ticket number (aka password) that they opened to see all their tickets.
  • Gotcha. thanks for thanks for the info.

can an official user can confirm that there is a plan to add ldap-auth for clients at version 1.8.2?

and does someone knows what is HTTP pass through auth plugin and how to use it?
  • I am struggling with the HTTP pass-thru auth plugin. I have OSticket installed on a windows server with IIS.

Got the plugin installed and enabled (no settings to configure here). Just don't know what to do with IIS to get authentication working.

The HTTP pass thru auth plugin makes SSO possible, by for example Kerberos. This way you automatically get logged into the staff section, afaik it's not possible for users yet.
Check http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Kerberos_(protocol) for more information about Kerberos.

I used http://acksyn.org/?p=460 to get Kerberos working on my environment.

I use Apache, so I'm not entirely sure, but it looks like the following page should help you:

    http://technet.microsoft.com/en-gb/library/cc754628(v=ws.10).aspx

The HTTP pass-thru plugin fixed my issue from http://osticket.com/forum/discussion/76613/ldap-plugin-sso , which allowed me to upgrade to 1.9 RC1.
Now I'm trying to get the 0.5 LDAP plugin working so I can get users to login via the AD. However the plugin doesn't seem to work at all, while the 0.4 plugin worked fine for staff logins, not sure what I'm doing wrong yet.
