No Ticket # displayed on ticket creation

I just upgraded to v1.8.1 and created a few test tickets. I noticed that after ticket creation, the thank you message that is displayed does not show the ticket ID number. Instead I just see this:

A support ticket request #XXXXXX has been created and a representative will be getting back to you shortly if necessary.

What do I need to do in order to get the #XXXXXX to show the actual ticket ID instead?
