osTicket v1.10 (stable) and Maintenance Release v1.9.15 are now available! Go get it now

Upgrade from 1.9.6 - don't want to get this wrong!

I would like to upgrade a more important, very live, osTicket.  Details are:
Server Information
osTicket Versionv1.9.6 (9adad36)
Web Server SoftwareApache
MySQL Version5.1.73
PHP Version5.3.3

It says on the top of the Dashboard:
"Please take a minute to delete setup/install directory (../setup/) for security reasons."
I think I have done that before (cannot specifically remember as it would have been a long time ago) because looking in
/var/www/vhosts/domain.com/httpdocs/osticket_help/setup
there is no folder called "install".  Have I done the right thing there?

Counter to what the website says, there is no "update" link in the Dashboard.  If I take a backup of the database and the entire file structure at
/var/www/vhosts/domain.com/httpdocs/osticket_help
am I safe to click Plesk's update link?  Or would you recommend a different, better way of doing it?

Comments

  • "setup/install directory" is just a title, the actual folder is the one in the brackets: "(../setup/)"

So yo need to delete the setup folder and the message will disappear ;)
    rm -rf /var/www/vhosts/domain.com/httpdocs/osticket_help/setup/

The "update link the Dashboard" appears only when a database upgrade is necessary. Since the last database upgrade was with version 1.9.4, the only thing that will change with any version above 1.9.4 are the files on the webserver. So when you uploaded the new files (after a backup for sure) and the Admin panel > Dashboard > Information shows the new version number, everything is done.

That said, all you need to do to upgrade from 1.9.6  to 1.9.12 would be to upload the new files. Since I think that is an easy action I'd recommend to this directly and not via Plesk's update link ;)

Hope your questions are all answered.

    Cheers,
    Michael
  • Hi Michael,
I need to get the latest version working - and have not done it to now.
Once you've overwritten the files, rename config.php to ostconfig.php (config.php is found in root osTicket directory).

but my setup does not have that.  The only config.php files I have are:
    /var/www/vhosts/domain.com/httpdocs/osticket_help/include/ajax.config.php
    /var/www/vhosts/domain.com/httpdocs/osticket_help/include/class.config.php
    /var/www/vhosts/domain.com/httpdocs/osticket_help/include/ost-config.php
    /var/www/vhosts/domain.com/httpdocs/osticket_help/include/ost-sampleconfig.php
    /var/www/vhosts/domain.com/httpdocs/osticket_help/include/mpdf/config.php

Before I upload those files, can you advise, as it will be needed immediately so I can't afford  for it to go wrong.
  • This
    /var/www/vhosts/domain.com/httpdocs/osticket_help/include/ost-config.php
is the current config file name.  You do not need to change the name as its already current.
