Exclamation Smtp problem

Hello people!

When I try to configure my email settings in the staff control panel I get the following error:

Failed to connect to mail.roomsquare.com:26 [SMTP: Failed to connect socket: Connection timed out (code: -1, response: )]

-My settings are from Outlook and they are working in Outlook so I dont understand the problem. I have also tried to telnet my mail server and it works correcty.

- Tried to check/uncheck "Authentication Required"but it doesn't solve the problem
-Changing smtp port from 26 to 25 doesnt work.

I hope somebody can help me,

Engin

When you say that you tried telnetting to the mail server did you try from the machine that OSTicket is installed on? It's entirely possible that the SMTP server only allows connections from specific IP Addresses. There could also be a firewall that is blocking the traffic.

I'm having the same problem as fbengo (I'd love to hear if/how he solved the problem).

I've setup OST on hostek.com. Their support says they do not block any port out from a web app, so whatever the SMTP host supports will work.

I tried all ports my normal SMTP provider supports - 25,2500,25000 and 2501 and 463 if using SSL - no dice:

Failed to connect to smtp.fusemail.net:25 [SMTP: Failed to connect socket: Connection timed out (code: -1, response: )]

I then setup my own SMTP server on a windows server and opened a hole in our firewall to port 25 - I don't even see a failed or successful connection coming in for it and I get the same error as above.

If Hostek is correct in that they're not blocking SMTP traffic, what else could I have them check? Is there a PHP option that needs to be enabled for SMTP to work?
