back at home now... it was the SElinux service that had to be disabled - whether you can get around this issue, without disabling the service I'm not sure. However it fixed it... maybe useful if anyone else as the problem / issue.

Thanks for posting your solution. If I get a chance (and remember) I'll look into if there is a way to get around this with out completely disabling selinux.
