Unhappy Fatal Error: Contact site admin.

trying to install to demo - evaluating whether we want to replace our existing software with osticket. this is the second show stopper I've hit. the first was not having insert privileges for the database (not mentioned in the install instructions but very much needed to accomplish the setup).

anyway, when browsing to /osticket/scp/admin.php and to /osticket I get a page with only the message:

Fatal Error: Contact site admin.

I've followed the directions at http://www.osticket.com/forums/showp...85&postcount=4 to start displaying errors but didn't see any change in the error display. I can't find anything in the httpd logs to explain this, in fact those logs show successful access to the http docs (pages) so now help there.

I'd really like to give this software a try but it's rapidly becoming more work than it's worth.

Looking at the PHP source, there is a problem with your config or database.

But from what you've said, I'm guessing installation failed due to lack of database permissions you've mentioned above.

Looking back thru my notes I see that I (eventually) configured the database with:

create, insert, drop and alter permissions

Do I need any others?

Looking at the code it would appear that I either couldn't connect to the DB or couldn't load the config info - I don't know which since that error message isn't reported anywhere I can find. I didn't change the DB credentials or touch the config info after successfully completing the install. So what likely reason would I have for having trouble at this point immediately after the successful install?

How about SELECT permissions? -> Select rows from table
How about UPDATE permissions? -> Update existing row

damn, damn, damn.... that last prodding got me into mysql and poking around and when I finished with that I changed the privileges to:

create,insert,drop,alter,select,update,delete

and now the bloody thing works just fine. The error messages produced could be a bit more verbose, but, more importantly, the installation instructions need to be fixed!

When I applied the privileges per the installation instructions I thought it odd that some of the basic ones (like select) were left out. I made the (obviously rash) assumption that the privileges specified in the instructions would work with this software. Obviously not true. I had to add to the privileges to get the setup to run and again to get the software to run.

Who do we notify to get the installation instructions corrected so that others don't have to jump thru these hoops?

I did not catch that during my install - but you are right. It does state those settings are needed for creation of the database. I guess they assume as a db person you would know the normal rights needed.
Glad you got it up and running.
